This evening was absolutely perfect, fantastic and when I describe it for you, you will then be privy to how very little it takes to amuse me. I drew the line in the sand at 4pm and made my girls (who think it's child abuse to come inside before dark these days) come inside for some "quiet" time. After mentally wrestling with them about the pros of taking a rest from a hot June day, they nestled into bed with me and we read chapter three of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Lewis' 5th book in the Chronicles of Narnia series). Then, yes, in the middle of the afternoon, I took a bath--wondrous indeed--the only drawback being the volume with which the girls listened to some random show on the Disney channel. (I know it's the weekday and we normally don't watch t.v.--but it is summer and a woman has to have her bath) The only thing worse than Zach and Cody is Zach and Cody really loud. Steve and I then made omelettes, salad, and double fiber english muffins for dinner. (We have entered that "obsessed with fiber" stage in life. I don't know how or when it happened....it just crept up on us.) Sometimes, there is just nothing better than eggs for dinner, why is that? At dinner, we discussed fiber, of course, along with the dilemma I often face at dinner......hummmm....I'll make the food really good(full flavor, full fat and calories) but I'll only eat a small portion. The problem with that logic is that when you make the food really good, you want to eat it until you can't comfortably sit in a lawn chair and watch your kids play outside. Unfortunately, the full flavor dinner usually wins out at my house and I have to admit that the first 30 minutes in the lawn chair are a bit uncomfortable. But those long summer evenings of sublime weather, birds chirping, kids playing, and dogs sleeping, are priceless. I'm sure I'll finish my perfect evening off with a little reading and an old episode of Law and Order. Life is bliss.
